Moving overseas and living the dream

In August I’m moving overseas. Europe, maybe London.

I’m doing the big, scary thing. I’m craving that nervous excitement, the heart pumping exhilaration. I’m already hooked.

I’m going to meet new people, see amazing things, and do good work.

When I share this news, I’m noticing people get very caught up in the what and how.

Yes, August is soon.
No, I don’t know what I’ll do.
Yes, I know lots of people find it hard to get work.
No, I don’t have any money saved right now.
Yes, finding friends and making connections will take time and effort.
No, I don’t know what I’ll do if I return to Adelaide.

But, you know what?

I am going to thrive.

Why would I plan to do anything but live an incredible life?

It’s about attitude and intention.

Imagination is a beautiful thing. We have the ability to create scenarios in our mind where we are winning, we are the heroines, we are living our best lives.

Society tries to limit us at every step. We’ve created narratives telling us to be careful, to think about the consequences and avoid unnecessary risks.

We latch onto stories from friends of friends who tried and failed. Cautionary tales. Reasons it can’t be done.

We’re like the monkeys who don’t climb the ladder to get the banana because one monkey a long time ago was squirted with water.

We’re so quick to shut it down, because dreaming is scary. It requires us to act.

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate, our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us”

– Marianne Williamson

Almost everything is possible. It may not be easy, it may not feel or look as you expected and it may take time, but with enough passion and determination, it’s possible.

Dream big. Challenge assumptions. Challenge the status quo.

When people say  things like “you can’t do that”, “it’ll never work”, “that’s not how things are done”, it’s almost always from a place of fear and insecurity.

Don’t let someone’s unfounded worry curb your possibility.

Naivety is a super power.

Shine bright. Don’t dull your sparkle to make others feel more comfortable and safe – you are not here on this earth to lessen other people’s insecurities.

Do the big, scary things. Do the big, scary things with the knowledge that you will be incredible. Trust me, you’ve got this.
